Why do I keep seeing controller failed or locked down after I insert the new controller into chassis?

Solution

Firmware version mismatch
When the firmware of the master controller and the slave controller are different, the slave controller is locked down after you insert the new controller into chassis. You may use Firmware Synchronization to synchronize the controller firmware version. The Firmware Synchronization tab is used on dual controller system to synchronize the controller firmware versions. The firmware of slave controller is always changed to match the firmware of the master controller. It does not matter if the firmware version of slave controller is newer or older than the master controller. Normally, the firmware version in both controllers is the same.
If the firmware versions between two controllers are different, it will display the following message. Click Apply button to synchronize. The slave controller will reboot automatically after the firmware synchronization and the system will working in normal state after the slave controller is back to online.
            

Operation mode
When the system is running under a single controller operation mode, the slave controller is locked down after you insert the new controller into chassis. Please navigate on the Web UI then switch to the maintenance page and go to the firmware upgrade page, adjust the operation mode to dual then shutdown and power on the system again.


Memory size mismatch
When the memory size is mismatched on the controllers, the slave controller is locked down after you insert the new controller into chassis. Please check the memory size is the same between the two controllers, and re-insert the second controller. V (*)
